Rejoice in the Lord with a beautiful sound!!
The Worship, Music and Arts Committee makes sure that worship details are taken care of for each service, including organizing the lay leaders, the acolytes, ushers, and greeters. The committee members ensure there are flowers in the sanctuary, that the candles are ready to be lit, and on Communion Sundays, that the elements are prepared. Throughout the year there are special services, including Lenten services, the Maundy Thursday service, the Easter Sunrise service and Easter worship, Christmas Eve services and the annual Christmas Cantata service with special music by the choir and orchestra. Both choirs, the Chancel Choir and the more folk-oriented Northminstrels, fall under the responsibility of this committee. Congregation members are invited and encouraged to be part of this worship ministry.
The Chancel Choir has been given special music-making and musical worship leading responsibilities. Its primary function is to serve the congregation and to support the work of the clergy. Their responsibilities include leading congregational singing and involvement, presenting psalms and spiritual songs in worship. Weekly choir rehearsal is a time of spiritual and musical preparation to lead worship. The choir rehearses each Wednesday night in the sanctuary from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Choir members worship, pray, and prepare to lead the congregation in worship. As well as participating in the 10:30 service, the choir sings at special seasonal outreach events. The Chancel Choir is open to all singers high school age and above. There is no audition required. There are singers of all levels, those with little choral background to the very accomplished. The group is bound together through its love of Christ and the joy of making great choral music during worship time. New singers are always welcome.
The Northminstrels, the church's acoustic music team and integral part of the church's blended worship music program, have been involved with the worship program here for a quarter of a century. The group, unlike typical "praise bands" with electric guitars and drums, relies on acoustic instruments including guitars, mandolins, autoharps and percussion. They feature a wide variety of musical styles ranging from the most contemporary songs to the oldest gospel songs to favorite hymns.
