Adult Learning

Adult Sunday School Class:

Every Sunday Morning from September – May, an adult Sunday School class meets in the old choir room at 9am.   This fall, adults are invited to try a 4 week class beginning September 3 that will be looking at Jesus Feminist: An Invitation to Revisit the Bible’s View of Women by Sarah Besse. Byron Barnett will lead the discussion throughout September on how “gender roles have been debated for centuries, and Sarah Besse offers a clear call for all who want to realize their giftedness and potential in the kingdom of God. Through a thoughtful review of biblical teaching and church practices, Bessey shares how following Jesus made a feminist out of her.”

Monday Morning Group:

A weekly Bible study know as the Monday Morning Group (MMG) gathers each Monday at 10:30 a.m. is open to every member and friend of Northminster.  Our meetings begin with prayer requests and a devotional.  This is followed by reading and discussing the liturgical readings scheduled for the following Sunday’s worship service.  In examining these readings, we look at selections from the Old Testament, psalms, a gospel, and the writings from the rest of the New Testament.

Each week, moving alphabetically through the church roster, we focus our prayers as well on the families and friends of Northminster.  This is truly a support group, not only for those in attendance, but for those to whom the members reach out.

Wednesday Night Bible Study:

This evening study meets on Wednesdays at 6:15 p.m. in the old choir room, before choir practice.  This class allows adults who wish to gather as a small group to explore challenging topics and enjoy conversations that grant us the time to consider many perspectives.  This study is an opportunity to meet, question, and grow in faith.  This fall,  this group will be using Animate Bible, to guide our discussion on seven big conversations on topics that will allow us to examine this holy book more thoroughly.  Childcare is available.

Thursday Evening Prayer Group:

On Thursday evenings, at 7 p.m., the Northminster Prayer Group meets for about an hour.  This group spends the first half hour in Bible Study and then follow up with prayer time.  Currently, this group is studying 1 Corinthians.  During our prayer time, we consider the needs of the church, individuals, our city, our government, and our world.  Then, we pray.  You are welcome to join us for the Bible Study or the prayer time, or both.

Young Women’s Bible Study:

The Young Women of Northminster gather twice a month to study the Bible, build relationships, and support each other in their daily lives.  A low-key group, they meet year round, and invite you to join them at anytime as they study God’s word and catch up with each other’s lives.  Currently, they are using “Cherry Log Sermons” by Fred Craddock to focus their conversation together.  This group gathers on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at the Alamo Ranch Starbucks, located at 438 W Loop 1604 N, at 8 p.m.

PW Circle:

The Presbyterian Women of Northminster gather monthly to explore the bible and share our faith journey.  Together we nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, support the mission of the church worldwide, work for justice and peace, and build an inclusive, caring community of women. In addition, the PW organize occasional outings that expand our understanding of our faith or the world around us.  Our annual Christmas cookie sale is a fundraiser that allows us to support various mission projects.  Currently, we are using the 2017-2018 Horizon Study, “Cloud of Witnesses:  The Community of Christ in Hebrews”  Join us on the 3rd Tuesday evening of each month, September through May, at 7 p.m.
