Welcome to Northminster’s Children’s Ministry. We are devoted to developing the  social, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth of all children.  At Northminster, children learn that the church is a place where they belong, are loved, have friends, and find important service to do.   We have many programs designed to support your child’s faith formation throughout their childhood, all while keeping the grace and love of God at the center of our ministry.

At Northminster, we believe that children learn to worship by worshiping.  Therefore, we welcome children of all ages in our worship service.  The sound of little children reminds us all that Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”  Matthew 19:14.

Nursery: Birth – Age 2

Northminster offers Nursery care to our littlest loves. Your child is always welcome in our nursery where they will be both loved and nurtured by our professional staff. Available every Sunday morning from 9am – 12pm, we provide a minimum of two adults to supervise the play and activities of all children. Background checks and reference checks are run on all our staff so that you can feel confident that your child will be safe and comfortable at all times.

Sunday School | 9:00 AM

Sunday School is available for all children ages 3 – 5th grade every week. This multiage class explores the familiar Bible stories with children each week.   Come hear the familiar stories, and investigate them through a variety of activities where children are given a hands-on opportunity to interact with the story through art, food, science, drama, and movement.

Children’s Church: During Worship

Children’s Church is available on Sundays during worship for children ages 3 – 5th grade. At Northminster, children are asked to join their family for worship until after the children’s moment.  Children are then invited to gather in age-appropriate classes to examine the topics and stories that are being explored in worship that week. An effort is made to incorporate regular use of the Bible and to discuss the elements of worship with our children as they grow. Our goal is to provide all our children with a joyful and meaningful learning environment  where they are encouraged to know Jesus and to grow as followers of him.   We would love to have you come and join us for the fun! If you have any questions please contact Sara Holland.

Families With Young Children Sunday School Class:

At Northminster we know that the strongest spiritual impact for children comes from daily interactions with the adults they love and trust most.  We also believe that you do not have to tackle this daily task of helping your children to know Christ alone.  This class meets on the first Sunday of each month at 9 a.m. to help equip, encourage, and rejoice with families as they navigate the challenges of parenting in faith together.

On Ash Wednesday we gather to be reminded of our place in this world. “You are dust and to dust you shall return.” Lent makes us mindful that our bodies are fragile, but our souls can be made strong. Lent gives us a new chance to nourish our both our hearts and our souls. To really celebrate Easter and all its glory, we first need to know WHAT we are celebrating and WHY Jesus’ death and resurrection are so important. Lent helps us to do that. It is our hope that in this season of Lent, you will choose to join us in one or more of the following opportunities to nourish both your heart and your soul this Lent.

Lent Take Home Bags

Beginning on February 18, Lent Take Home bags will be available in the Family Room. Included this year are 6 symbols of the season of Lent and some simple instructions on how individuals and families can practice Lent in their homes each week. The questions and scripture are intended to start conversation and provide families with a practical means of making Lent available to children as well as adults.

2018 OGHS Fish Banks

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Your Donations Can Go Far… A safe place to sleep. This year, our children will be invited to collect coins in their fish banks with the goal of purchasing bunk bed. By providing beds for children who are sleeping on the floor, couch, or in other inadequate situations, we have the ability to make it possible for children to sleep sounder, learn better, and grow healthier. As little as $200 can buy a set of bunkbeds that accomplishes that goal. Each year, One Great Hour of Sharing gives us all of us an opportunity to practice the act of giving and it invites us to acknowledge and give thanks to God for the abundance in our life. We hope you will support us in providing more children with a safe place to sleep!
