Sermon: “The Anti-Religious God”
Texts: Isaiah 1:10-18
Our theme today is the anti-religious nature of God. We will be hearing some interesting, funny, and oftentimes profound quotes from notable critics of religion like Mark Twain, H.L. Mencken, and Madeline Murray O’Hare. But these folks are rank amateurs compared to the criticisms that God makes.
So the next time someone criticizes the church, we can say honestly, “You’re absolutely right, we could do much better. And thank you for using such temperate language because you should hear how God criticizes the church!”
On another note, I’ve been trying to think of a motto that Northminster could adapt to encourage others to join us. One that occurred to me was: “Come worship with us. You won’t be the weirdest one!” What do you think? 🙂
