Text: Romans 12:1–8
Sermon: “The ‘So What?’ of Romans 1-11”
This Sunday is the first day in Lent, the 40 days of fasting and penitence, from Ash Wednesday to Maundy Thursday. The four Sundays within this time period are not counted among the 40 days of Lent because each Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus and cannot be used for mournful activities such as fasting and ashes. This Sunday is also Youth Sunday and we are looking forward to being led in worship by church members who are young, smart, and more full of energy than the rest of us.
Today’s text is a pivot on which the entire book of Romans turns. After spending the first 11 chapters laying out the bad news and then good news of the Gospel, Paul uses a rather innocent appearing word: “therefore.” What follows in our text is the “so what” of chapters 1-11. Join with us.
