When you join us for morning worship, we want you to feel welcomed and at home; and when you depart, we pray you will do so feeling spiritually refreshed and encouraged. In addition to our year-round residents, a number of our congregants are vacationers and part-time members of our community—so if this will be your first visit you can be assured that you will fit right in. We are grateful for the opportunity to welcome so many brothers and sisters in Christ, and we hope you will be one of them!

Frequently asked questions

When are worship services?

Northminster Presbyterian Church holds one Sunday morning worship service that begins at 10:30 a.m. each week. Following the service, please join us for a time of fellowship and refreshments in our Family Room.

what are worship services like?

The order of a Sunday worship service in a Presbyterian church is determined by the pastor and the session, the church’s governing body. It generally includes prayer, music, Bible reading, and a sermon based upon scripture. The Sacraments, a time of personal response/offering, and a sharing of community concerns are also parts of worship.
The Presbyterian constitution suggests that worship be ordered in terms of five major actions centered in the word of God (gathering around the word, proclaiming the word, responding to the word, the sealing of the word, and bearing and following the word into the world), but recognizes that “other orders of worship may also serve the needs of a particular church and be orderly, faithful to Scripture, and true to historic principles.” (Book of Order (PCUSA), W-3.3202)

Where can I watch the Live Stream?

You can watch our livestream Sundays at 10:30 AM on our Video Livestream and Archive page. Replays of the livestream are also available on that same page.

What can I expect when I arrive?

Everyone is welcome to attend our worship service. It doesn’t matter if you are a life-long Christian, are of another faith, or if you’ve simply never been to church before. You will be greeted warmly and welcomed sincerely. We are happy you have joined us and we look forward to offering you hospitality. When you arrive at the church you will find plenty of parking. Handicap and Visitor parking places are marked by signs. Once inside, our ushers will be happy to answer to any questions you might have. Feel free to sit anywhere in the Sanctuary.

Do you have programs for children?

We are always delighted to welcome children into our worship and children of all ages are welcome to stay with their families throughout the whole of the worship service. Most children are in worship for the first part of the service. About 15 minutes into the service, they are dismissed to Children’s Church. There are volunteers to help the children find their way to a class. For the very young among us, we have childcare available in the church nursery. In addition, the Family Room makes a great quiet space for parents and children if you need to leave the sanctuary during the service (but a space where you can still see and hear what’s going on in the sanctuary).
In all our children's classes an effort is made to incorporate regular use of the Bible and to discuss the elements of worship with our children as they grow. Our goal is to provide all our children with a joyful and meaningful learning environment where they are encouraged to know Jesus and to grow as followers of him.

What is a Presbyterian?

Presbyterians are simply Christians who place a strong and enthusiastic emphasis on basic Christian convictions like:

  • God’s loving and constant care of the world and all human beings
  • God’s unconditional grace extended to us in Jesus Christ, who is God with us
  • The centrality and relevance of the Bible as God’s most reliable way of speaking to us today
  • The importance of showing our faith in actions that help the world to reflect God’s purposes
  • The immediacy and power of the Holy Spirit as God’s constant presence within and among us

More than anything else, Presbyterians believe God’s love for the world is the strongest force in the universe. We believe that by the Holy Spirit, God’s love has been uniquely demonstrated in Jesus Christ and is available to us today.

Our Beliefs

Do I have to be a member to participate in communion?

No, we encourage all who believe in God to partake in the gifts of communion, as you are comfortable.

How often do you serve communion?

Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and on certain special occasions.

How should I dress?

Wear what makes you comfortable!  You will find that some men wear jackets and ties, while others wear polos or sport shirts.  Some women wear slacks, and others wear dresses.  You’ll even see people in Hawaiian shirts or shorts.  What matters most to us is not what you wear, but that you are here!

What type of music do you sing?

We are truly a congregation that loves music and we are blessed with many talents in our music ministry. When we sing as a congregation, we appreciate and like to incorporate musical gifts from the many different traditions and cultures within Christianity. On any given Sunday, we might sing some traditional church hymns like “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” or “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” an old gospel hymn like “Amazing Grace” or “Blessed Assurance,” an African song like “Hallelujah! We Sing Your Praises!” or “Siyahamba,” a modern folk-liturgical piece like “Here I Am Lord” or “Shout to the Lord,” or a chant from the Taize community like “Lord, Hear Our Prayer” or “Bless the Lord, My Soul.”
